Addiction: the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity.
Love: feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to (someone)
Amazing how two words with vastly different definitions can have the same adverse effect on the spirit. I may be an addict, but I’m no longer foolhardy enough to be addicted to one man. No, this girl finds her comfort in thirst quenching liquid — it dulls the pain caused by tainted love.
True love may exist, but not for me.
Reckless: without thinking or caring about the consequences of an action
The guy I used to be is a distant memory. I left him in the past, vowing never to be that man again. But never say never, right? This time, I became him out of need. Need for her. She only let me in assuming I enjoyed being on the outside, at arm’s length. But the more I fight the desire brewing in my veins, the harder she is to resist.
Wrong for each other, but carved from the same stone.
He is my rock.
She is my air.
But rocks shatter, and if you get high enough, air becomes unbreathable.
No matter how good it might seem, getting wrapped up in each other is
Kat doesn’t want the picket fence and 2.5 kids “American Dream”. She prefers to focus on her career as a make up artist/aesthetician, at least that is something she can control and she knows she is good at. When it comes to love, her heart has been shown the door more times than she can remember. These days, she prefers the “love em and leave em” strategy.
Chase had no intention of interrupting his peaceful life with the wrinkle of romance. But when the sexy, foul mouthed little Greek Goddess fell into his life there was nowhere to hide. He gave up one addiction only to find another…Kat!
Kat and Chase’s story is not filled with rainbows and unicorns. No, instead it’s rife with real life issues. Everything from alcoholism and addiction to feelings of insecurity and betrayal, this book has it all. When these two get together the attraction is undeniable, but yet, it’s denied. After all, why screw up a good thing with emotions, right?
This book really hit close to home for me. Not only am I Greek, but I also have experience in dealing with addiction in loved ones, not to mention my own feelings of low self worth. In my opinion, Author Jane Anthony was spot on with her portrayal of a broken women battling her demons. The way she is written, I never found myself feeling sorry for Kat. Instead, I rooted for her to succeed. To find love and learn to love herself.
As I have said before, I have become a quick fan of Ms. Anthony’s writing, Pretty Reckless is a perfect example of why. The story and the characters are multi-dimensional and smart. At each turn of the page I became more entrenched in the story, falling more in love with the characters. One minute I was wiping away tears, then consumed by laughter and the next I was fanning myself from the heat between the pages.
I strongly urge anyone looking for a book with depth, smart writing and sexy spunky characters to #ONECLICK now and find out why I fell in love with Pretty Reckless.
Without hesitation, I give Pretty Reckless 5 Stars. Yes, I was given an ARC, but I will be first in line to buy the e-copy on release day!
On a side-note, I would like to mention that the subject of addiction was handled responsibly and at no time did I feel that the author used alcoholism or drug abuse in a gratuitous fashion.
