Pretty When She Cries: Black Mountain Academy Series by A. Zavarelli is another book dealing with BMA. Kailani aka Kai has been tasked with tutoring Landon. Landon is a teen heart throb actor who just so happens to live next door to Kai. Kai has no ideal who Landon is due to the fact she just moved from Hawaii recently. She had no use for a television or social media. Of course she eventually develops a crush on him. He has been nothing but nice. When she ends up going to one of his parties and ends up waking up in bed with Landon and another boy with other classmates taking pictures she is horrified and hurt. Initially I struggled with reading this book. The bullying in this book hurt my heart. Kai was so sweet and to see what she endured was hard. Other than the bullying I really liked this story. As a famous actor there was so much going on with Landon and other characters in this story. A real emotional read that was just raw at times. Just wow! Wow! Definitely didn’t see that coming and that and that. When a book takes me on such a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I am drained at the end I know it was worth the read. Like any good ride you want to get on again. 4.5 stars for me.

I’ll be honest, I’ve read another book in the Black Mountain Academy and I was hesitant to read this one. All the books I’ve read from A. Zavarelli has been very good so I took a chance. I am soo glad I did. I finished this book at 2:59am after starting it at about 10:30 pm. This line in the book made me feel old. Sigh. “My mom says he’s like their generation’s version of Johnathan Taylor Thomas. Whatever that means.” I remember JTT and having his posters on my wall. Anyways, I enjoyed this book immensely. I knew who the mean people were in the book but it wasn’t until later that I saw just how horrible they were. My heart broke for Landon because the ones who was suppose to love him the most did the most damage. With Kailani I didn’t know how to feel about her, one minute I was cheering her on and the next I was rolling my eyes because how easy she became putty in Landon’s presence. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Pretty When She Cries is part of the Black Mountain Academy that there are multiple authors writing in this series. Each book can be read as a standalone.
I have read a few books by A. Zavarelli and she always keeps her characters interesting. This is a dark high school bully romance. I am not a great fan of bullying in my romance usually. My heart really went out for Kailani “Kai”. It seems she got set up for all the bad stuff that went on and I really did not like the bully in the story but then we aren’t supposed to, are we?
Pretty When She Cries had me going through all the emotions, my heart was breaking, angsty and even angry for all that happened. It took me a while to even like Landon but there were a series of misunderstandings that made me feel that way. And all worked out well in the end.
