All I knew about life was anger and violence. Pain and suffering. Kill or be killed.

Cold Hearted Bastard (Underworld Kings Series) by Jenika Snow. Galina finds herself promised to a low life drug dealer due to her father’s habit. She has always known her dad was trash. Between the drugs and gambling she knew she would have to make an escape from his bad choices. Leaving Las Vegas she finds herself in a small town in New York. She knows she is has to keep her wits about her, so she works in a diner. With a name change and living under the radar she is planning to save enough money so she can keep moving. Arlo has been going into the diner not for the food but a certain waitress. When their paths cross outside of the diner Arlo ends up saving her. But now that he has her, he doesn’t want to let her go. He wants to know all about her and to keep her safe.  And Arlo will go to great lengths to do just that and he will kill anyone who gets in his way. Galina feels the attraction to Arlo but she knows he is involved in the underworld. She knows that world and doesn’t want any part of it but her feelings for Arlo say something else. Hot and steamy. Violent and lustful.  A violent road to happily ever after. 4 stars for me.

Cold Hearted Bastard is the second book in the Underworld Kings series written by various authors. Each book can be read as a standalone but may be an introduction into the author’s own series. I believe it is the town that is the connection to each of these books in the Underworld Kings series.

I think that I read that each of these authors will write in the genre that they write. In other words not all the books will be dark.  I can say this is a “dark read” so get ready!

I enjoyed reading Arlo and Galina’s story. Galina’s father has given her to a drug dealer. Whom she escapes from and then has to live lying low so that her father nor the drug dealer can ever find her. Arlo is called the “fixer” and he is a contract killer.

Kind of funny (odd) that Arlo is a really bad guy, in a good way. The antihero! It does make for a good read in a dark way.

He frequents the diner where she works because he is very attracted to her. Then one day a situation puts them together and of course you need to read this book to find out what happens next!

I love how all these authors can create an interconnecting series!
