I tried to do things the right way. I wore the big white dress and rode off with Prince Charming. Then Charming changed his mind. Now I’m left to face the truth. I haven’t moved on, not because I’m not over my ex but because I’ve been closed off to anything new.

Enter Leo. A gorgeous, blue-eyed specimen of a man. Tenacious in a way that stirs my desires alive for the first time in years. He also happens to be my newest employee.
I have two choices, I can either edge around the intense chemistry between us or walk right through it. I’ve never been afraid to go after what I want, but nothing can prepare me for what’s on the other side.

[A standalone romantic drama. First book in a series of interconnected novels. Contains explicit content.]

This is the debut novel for Veronica Larsen and she knocked it out of the park! I read it in one day and could not put it down.

This first person story tells the tale of two emotionally unavailable characters. This is their story of breaking down the barriers and letting love in.

Alexis is a strong, smart, independent woman, who has started her own thriving company. Her start in life was difficult but worked hard to achieve success.

Leo is new to the company and while others are intimidated, he is intrigued by his new boss. He grew up in a wealthy family but worked hard to define his own life.

What I enjoyed most about the novel was that the author spent time developing the main characters as well as the supporting characters. As a reader, I found that there were a number of characters that I would just like to slap upside the head, this made the story more complete to me because that is reality. The character development helped complete the story but included all aspects of the two main characters lives outside Leo and Alexis’s interactions and how they ended up crossing.

Their relationship had a lot of bumps in the road but not so much angst that it put me off. I do not like a lot of books with so much turmoil, heartbreak, and anger especially when they really serve no purpose. When Leo or Alexis were working through their personal barriers, there was upheaval but it served a purpose and you could see the characters grow as a result of the process. Their sexual encounters are OMG hot but do not dominate the story. The book is more than two people having physical encounters, it’s all the dynamics of two people interacting and building a relationship.

One of the aspects that I loved about this novel was the imagery the author weaved to describe feelings.

“Some people rush to fill those holes. With other things, other people. But me? I stripped down to what I needed and only what I needed. When I learned to do that, I found my power again. I got my life back. I don’t want to be left with anything less. I don’t want to pour myself into a person and end up empty.”

“I want you. I’m drowning in you, Alexis, I know I’m not supposed to, but it’s too late and I can’t stop it. I need to know that we won’t go back to being strangers after a few nights together. So don’t, Alexis, don’t pour anything out, don’t part with a thing. I want you whole, just as you are, except with me.”

I truly enjoyed reading this book. The next book in this series is Entice which is Emily Stone’s story which will be released in May/June. I am looking forward to reading it even though she was a character that I felt needed a reality check. From the looks of the teasers for the book, it looks like she just might be getting one.
