If…
Someone hadn’t scarred my face.

That tweaker hadn’t attacked that homeless guy.
I hadn’t invited a stranger over for Thanksgiving.
I hadn’t fallen in love.
If I hadn’t lost him.
——
If…
I hadn’t gone for that drive.
I saw the world like everyone else.
My “genius” wasn’t slowly destroying me.
I had just walked away before I could ever know her.

Tanya Rae’s Review:
Wow I really do love reading your books Nina G. Jones! I wasn’t sure at the beginning that I would like this book. It took a couple of chapters for me to fall in love with “If” but, I did! I love Asher with all his troubles and “Bird or Birdie” aka Annalise Robin Campbell. Both are artists, Asher a painter and Bird a dancer. Asher with Synesthesia & was BiPolar, (I had to look Synesthesia up http://synesthesia-test.com/) and Bird with a facial disfigurement. They both have their own problems in life.I loved the story told about these 2 young people and all the supporting characters. And, no I can’t tell you more because you really need to read this story on your own. Nina brought out a lot of emotion in the telling of this story because there are some sad parts but, it does have an HEA. Which brought even more emotion. I loved “If”! Bring on more to read Nina I am ready!I received this ARC for an honest review. |

Shannon Pacsuta’s Review:
Wow…this was a very interesting read for me. This is the story of Bird, an aspiring dancer who is trying to pursue her dreams. However, due to a childhood tragedy, she has scars on her face that most people can’t seem to see beyond. That is until she meets Ash, a man living on the streets with more artistic talent than one can imagine. Ash has synesthesia and he SEES Bird for the beautiful woman she is, inside and out. “Love is accepting someone, flaws and all.”
I had never heard of synesthesia before, and I found myself quite intrigued reading about it. I loved the way the author, Nina G. Jones described how Ash saw things, people, feelings, everything. She was so descriptive that I could literally see what Ash saw. This book deals with several others issues and I felt they were written extremely well.
There’s a line in the book that says “minutes are precious and they could be snatched away before you ever had a chance to say or do the things you always wanted to do”. Well, I’m gonna take this minute to tell you that you should read this book. No Ifs about it. I give this book 4.5 stars.
*I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

Lita’s Review:
If by Nina G. Jones was a very interesting story of loving a person in spite of physical, emotional and mental issues. Bird as she has been called since she was a little girl is a dancer. Dance is her life. It brings joy to her life and she is very talented. The only problem is she has experienced a tragedy that has left her face partially scarred since she was a little girl. Always knowing she was a gifted dancer she leaves college and goes to LA to pursue her passion.
One night when she was going home she comes across a homeless man being attacked by 2 thugs. Ash is not what he looks like. Living on the streets he sees this beautiful girl. A girl who he has been watching. One night as he is being robbed by 2 thugs the girl comes to his aid but find herself also under attack. Ash is able to save her and himself but gets stabbed in process. Trying to thank Ash, Bird invites him to Thanksgiving day dinner. Bird feels for Ash (he is young and homeless. Ash has issues of his own. This is a story of unconditional love, love so strong that you can’t let the person go.
I truly enjoyed this story. I give this book 4 ½ OOOOo’s (O’s for Orgasms) This ARC was received for an honest review.

Excerpt
Her cries looked like shards of glass, a sour flavor assaulted my taste buds, my fingertips felt like they were being pricked with needles. They would not snuff her light, they would not dull her laughter. She was the only thing in this world that connected me to my old self. Suddenly I cared again, if only for that moment. Those sick fucks would not hurt her.
My numbness was mangled from the inside with a fury that detonated like a bomb. I didn’t even feel the knife as it dug into my flesh.
That girl, for some reason, I couldn’t shut it off with her. I saw her just as vividly as I used to see everything.
She made me want to create again. That was dangerous. Far more dangerous than anything these stupid muggers could have done. I had to keep the desire at bay or else I would lose control. Because my art destroys the people I care about. It turns me into a monster.
Up until that point, the redheaded girl who shined like a beacon in the mist was an empty threat. There was an invisible barrier, where girls like her didn’t see guys who lurked in alleyways. I was safe from her ability to break through to the parts of my brain that had been made dormant through copious amounts of medication.
Yet, somehow, there she was, seeing me. Glimmering in the dark alleyway like some sort of guardian angel that I didn’t want.
I tried so hard not to exist, but she was forcing me to. She was forcing me to partake in life.
I wanted to die, but she forced me to live.
And I wasn’t happy about it.
