“Hey Chloe.”
“Everything okay?”
“I don’t know,” he said, voice low. “You tell me.”
“What do you mean?”
“You just gonna stay in your room and watch me, or are you gonna come over and actually talk to me?”
I huffed a laugh, looking up, heat bombarding my cheeks. Being embarrassed would have been an understatement. “I’m—I don’t know what you mean.”
“Turn on your lamp,” he demanded.
“Why?”
“I want to see you.”
I looked towards my lamp, hesitating. He was quiet, waiting for me to follow through. I blew a breath, going for my lamp. Then I met at the window again, and he was still there. His expression had changed though. He was smiling now. It was gentle. Sweet.
“Damn. Is there ever a time you don’t look good?”
“Please,” I laughed, tugging on the hem of my tank. It was then that I realized I had no bra on. I covered my chest with my arm.
“Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Cover up. Just stand there… let me look at you.”
Slowly dropping my hand, I stared ahead, allowing Mr. Black to get an eye-full. I was in my most natural state—hair up in a bun, shorts low, revealing too much leg, and sporting a white camisole that exposed firm, brown nipples.
“What are we doing?” I asked, voice barely heard.
He was quiet for a moment, his face serious now. “Picking up where we left off.”
I can’t really say more except read the synopsis. This book really took me to an emotional place and my heart hurt for the two of them. I hope you enjoy the story if you choose to read this book as much as I did. Tainted Black was gifted to me for an honest review and I give this book 5 stars.
Do read the warning and the authors note:
** Tainted Black is a forbidden love-story about a girl who helplessly falls for her best friend’s father. After a tragic accident ends the life of Theo Black’s wife, he turns to the one person he has always found interesting.
Chloe Knight, the girl from across the street, his daughter’s best friend, and a person that is considered completely off limits for him. **
— AUTHOR NOTE: Chloe IS NOT 12 when she sleeps with Mr. Black. When she says she’s been in love with him ever since she was 12 years old, it means she has loved him since then, way before he ever knew. When the tragedy happens, Chloe is 19 and Theo is 39. When she mentions the “sweet grass” part, she is 19 years old. Hope that clears things up! 🙂 —
Tainted Black by Shanora Williams was the first book I think I have read about such a taboo relationship. Chloe was at 12 years old and lived in a very upscale neighborhood where she had no friends till one day Izzy Black moved into the house across the street. Chloe and Izzy became fast friends and spent a lot of time together. They were best friends. The year they were due to graduate a terrible accident sends their world into chaos. Izzy’s mother is killed in a robbery and the family has a hard time dealing with her death especially Izzy’s father Theo as he likes to be called by Chloe. When Izzy goes off to college before Chloe she if left to help Theo deal with his grief. Most nights he is falling down drunk in the garage and it is Chloe who helps get him into the house and puts him to bed. One night things go too far between the 2 of them and it is the start of their taboo relationship. They try to stay apart but the attraction is too great between them. Come to find out Chloe has been in love with Theo for years and he has had feelings for as she has grown and developed physically. The story unfolds as their secret affair becomes harder to hide as their feeling for each other grows. A really well told story with other back story told within their story. I truly enjoyed and finished before I knew it. I give this story 5 stars
