OMG I cried big ugly tears! What an ending! And, I agree that it ended the only way it could have ended. I can’t say more because I really try not to do spoilers. The Darkest Descension is not a standalone. You need to read A Sordid Promise, The Starkest Truth and then this book. These books are also very DARK in fact this whole series is VERY DARK. Here is Courtney Lane’s WARNING: Content contains descriptive violence, coarse language, graphic sex, minor horror elements, and scenes that most readers would find objectionable. Reader discretion is strongly advised. She is very serious about her WARNING! If you don’t like books that are DARK don’t try to read this one because wow is this book DARK!!!
Courtney Lane stated in her book that “In every one of my books there is a distinct lack of a tidy happily-ever-after for everyone and it will continue to be that way.” And, Courtney means it because that is exactly what I have gotten with each of her books. I love the way this author writes books and have read them all!
I received a complimentary copy of The Darkest Descension for an honest review. I give it 5 + Stars. I would give more if I could. It really brings out raw emotion!

Now I might be doing this review bass ackwards because for some reason I wrote my review for The Starkest Truth first and now I am writing my review for The Sordid Promise. I think it was because I had to rush on and read The Starkest Truth and I would come back and write this review for The Sordid Promise.
What can I say other than I am still a big fan of Courtney Lane! I love her books and this book is no exception.
If you like/love Dark reads then you need to read this book. I will let you read the Synopsis yourself and know that Nikki is messed up. She really does have some issues that make her like she is. Eric is also very messed up so this makes for a “messed up” twisted story.
Courtney does know how to write a story that will just draw you in and doesn’t let you go until you reach “the end” and then she still messes with you because d*mn I found myself not able to stop at the end and thankfully I had the ARC for The Starkest Truth ready to read!
I loved this book and series and even though you can read this as a standalone as stated who would want to when there is so much more.
This book The Sordid Promise was not an ARC. I bought it and it was oh so worth it!

First off The Starkest Truth is NOT a Standalone book! You must read The Sordid Promise first. You won’t be sorry! Now Courtney I might just be whining a bit. Did you really have to leave me with a Cliffie? And, I could see it was going to happen the closer to “the end” I got. Hopefully I don’t have to wait too long until the next book in this series is out!
I love Courtney’s story telling ability! The Starkest Truth is a continuation of Nikki & Eric’s life together. And, what a story they have. Have you ever wanted to yell at a character in a book? I know I have and I want to yell at Dr. Eric Brenton. He should have stayed home with his wife and protected her better. I can’t say more but, I really WANT to!
The Breaking Insanity Series are books that you need to read if you love DARK reads but, first read the WARNING!
