Mary Jane, a struggling comedienne, stumbled into the wrong club at the wrong time. She didn’t notice the gangster gripping the gun and the two scary men on his sides. She just jumped on the stage, tested the microphone, and went into her routine.

Power by Kenya Wright is a real change from previous book I have read by her. Mary Jane is an aspiring comedian who happens to walk in the wrong club where she goes on stage to audition her act. When she finally pays attention her audience consist of three men, two who are being held at gunpoint by The Beast. The Beast is the owner of the club as well as the head of the gang that runs the town in which Mary Jane lives. Now Mary Jane finds herself the guest of The Beast since she has seen too much. Noah aka The Beast runs Din City and has found himself having to make the decision which of his best friends he has to kill. He now has to get his crew under control as well as decide what he is going to do with the crazy girl who has just walked into his club. This was not a normal story of troubled guy falls for a sweet girl but his lifestyle makes it impossible for them to be together. I do not want to give too much away but there is so much going on that is not of this world. Noah finds himself consulting people who make the hairs on any person’s body stand on end. I did like this story as well as Noah and Mary Jane. The sex was definitely hot. The Beast was tough and was well versed in killing with his bare hands. The name he has of The Beast fits him to the tee and he is ruthless as well. Mary Jane is not only naïve but not a very good joke teller but still had me laughing. A new twist on a gangster and a girl. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I give this story 4 stars.

Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.
Words are power, and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.
It’s an audacity to inspire and teach the healing of love through arousal.
It’s this crazy idea that love can not only help a reader escape, but the story can also teach the person about being human, while making them laugh, cry, and hot for more sex.
