Title: Distraction
Series: Club Destiny
Author: Nicole Edwards
Genre: Adult, Erotic Romance

Time doesn’t always heal a broken heart. Sometimes the only thing it does is fill the darkness with more shadows, more pain.
Dylan Thomas has spent the past decade living in the shadows, mourning the loss of his wife, his best friend, his very reason for breathing. He long ago accepted that he would never feel again, that he was damned to a world without light, without hope. That was the day the bottle won, and he gave himself over to the darkness. Until the one night that rocked his brittle, crumbling world on its axis. She told him what they shared was simply a distraction, a way to forget for a little while. It would’ve been, except the tiny glimpse of how it feels to live again, to feel again, gives him the strength he needs to pull himself up by his boot straps. But sobriety comes one day at a time, and three years later may be three years too late. |

Theresa M’s review: 5 Stars
Everything happens for a reason, sometimes we know that reason right away, sometimes not. Sometimes never at all. I have been waiting for this book for a long time, longer than I thought it should have taken. When you read the note from Nicole Edwards at the beginning of this book, she explains the delay and work it took to write this story. This story took exactly the time needed to write it, and I’m that much more grateful for it.
In separate circumstances, Dylan and Sarah both have lost their spouses, and we see how they both deal with the depression stemming from those tragedies. With lots of help, Sarah is working through that loss, and with the help of her family and friends is making a great life for herself. Dylan—as we’ve read in previous Club Destiny books—is going the route of alcohol and lashing out. Dylan thinks the life he has is the one he’ll always have, and he’s accepted that he’ll never be happy again. Until he and Sarah share an encounter that rocks him and scares the crap out of him. Not wanting to bring her into his darkness, he avoids her…for three years.
Sarah wants Dylan, but she’s not going to chase after someone who doesn’t want her. She’s gone on some dates, and is seemingly happy, but she just can’t seem to shake Dylan. Dylan wants Sarah, but he refuses to offer her more than friendship. He doesn’t think she can handle his dark desires, and he doesn’t want to take away her sunshine. What Dylan soon realizes is that Sarah has some unexpected proclivities, and is very strong, and despite what she’s gone through, she hasn’t given up on living. Although Sarah feels differently, she agrees to Dylan’s proposition of them being a “distraction” from their sadness. They both quickly realize that what they have is so much more than a temporary fix for the darkness in their lives, and it scares them both. Could they face their pasts to forge a future together?
Surrounding Dylan and Sarah was a supporting series of stories that complemented theirs. I really felt like I was in this town seeing and feeling everything right along with everyone else. If you’re familiar with the Club Destiny series, you know there will be lots of steamy scenes, and you won’t be disappointed. You’ll also be pleased with those familiar faces that show up to give Distraction and this series a great sendoff.
This book had me running the gamut of emotions. It drained me, and left me with happy thoughts.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book, and I give it five stars.
