Animal by Marni Mann can be read alone but I would advise you to read Prisoned first. We get acquainted with Beard and the prison. A prison where only one person has left alive. This is his story. The story is told by 2 people Tyler a young lady who tells her story by first telling us about her suicide and then brings us back to the beginning of it all and then Beard life at the prison and the sick depraved life he is leading. I was really looking forward to this book after Prisoned and was excited to start reading this book. The 2 person telling the book had thrown me for a loop since I couldn’t figure out their connection but stay with it. It is a good story. Dark and twisted which I love to read when told right. Beard is a burly, sexy brute who loves making people scream as he tortures them. Tyler’s story is really interesting. She finds herself caught in something that only death is an option. When the dust finally settles and all is said and done my mind had been f**cked seven ways from Sunday. I have read a lot of this author’s books and she keeps surprising me with how she just keeps blowing my mind. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and give it 4.5 stars
