King (Pittsburgh Titans, Book #14)

by Sawyer Bennett

Synopsis:

Jack Kingston is known for his dominant playing skills on the ice, but off, heโ€™s a down-to-earth guy who values a true connection over a meaningless hookup.

I love being a member of the Pittsburgh Titans, even if my teammates are constantly ribbing me about women who they claim are throwing themselves all over me. Could I go for the easy lay? Sure, but thatโ€™s not my style. Iโ€™m more of long-term kind of guy. Instead, Iโ€™m going to keep doing what I do bestโ€”killing it out on the ice. Everything else will fall into placeโ€ฆeventually.

That time comes sooner than expected, in the most unlikely of ways. At the rink to watch our goalieโ€™s kids play Peewee hockey, I meet Willa Montreaux and somehow, by the end of that interaction, Iโ€™ve offered to help her coach the Ice Pups. Altruism or were there other intentions in that offer? A little of both, if Iโ€™m being honest.

As the time I spend with Willa increases, I am absolutely certain I want even more. Sheโ€™s gorgeous, sure, but thatโ€™s superficial. Willa is also funny, loving, determined and smart. SO smart.ย Doctorย smart. Probably too intelligent for a jock like me, but thatโ€™s not going to stop me from shooting my shot.

Not looking for anything more than a fling and concerned that sheโ€™s too old for me, Willa doesnโ€™t want to venture into anything serious. Iโ€™m willing to put in the work and give her the space she needs to come to terms with the fact that the connection we have is far more than physical. Willa and I are end game, but Iโ€™m willing to play into overtime if thatโ€™s what it takes to walk away with her by my side.

Lita’s Book Review: 4.5 Stars

King: A Pittsburgh Titans Novel (Pittsburgh Titans #14) by Sawyer Bennett. King is new to the Titans. He is part of the rebuilding of the team for the new season. When at a rink watching Drake’s son’s hockey game, he comes across Willa. Willa has found herself the coach of her niece’s hockey team. She was a figure skater but doesn’t know a thing about hockey. Jack, aka King, noticing that decides to help her. He also has an attraction to her. Willa doesn’t have a clue who Jack Kingston is, but she knows of the Pittsburgh Titans. Jack finds that refreshing. Willa is still dealing with her divorce from her surgeon husband, who not only cheated on her but was verbally abusive. When King shows an interest in her, she has reservation. Willa isn’t looking for anything serious, and the biggest issue is the age difference. She is 8 years older than King. Willa’s self-esteem is not the best. Her husband really did a number on her, and King, being a very attractive, successful hockey player, doesn’t help. King isn’t into one night stands or butty calls. He could care less about the age difference. His feelings for her have him willing to fight for her regardless of her issues. It has been a while since I read this author. This was a sweet journey that I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. There were some ups and downs. It was great catching up with the characters from the other books, which is always a treat. 4.5 stars for me.

King is the fourteenth book in the Pittsburg Titanโ€™s series. This is Jack โ€œKingโ€ Kingston (heโ€™s a defenseman) and Willa Montreauxโ€™s story. Willa is 8 years older than Jack.

Willa is coaxed into coaching her nieceโ€™s ice hockey team when the kids coach quits. Since Willa had been a figure skater when she was younger. At least she has skating on ice experience, even though she has no idea about ice hockey. Willa is out of her league when it comes to coaching. All she really knows is keep it positive and fun. King steps in when he overhears one of the parents of the kids berating his child and both King and Willa feel the kids should be in this for the fun. King is willing to help the kids team with the skills to skating and playing.

I love how sure King was with their relationship and Willa was not. But love does win out!

Okay this may be because I am a retired nurse but my favorite quote in this book was from Izzy to Willa, who is a family medicine doctor and is coaching the team and is Izzyโ€™s aunt.

โ€œIโ€™m not scared of them. I want to push them back so they know I canโ€™t be intubated.โ€ Laughing, I pat her head. โ€œYou mean intimidated.โ€

Another cute, funny and sexy story by Sawyer Bennett! Rafferty Abrams is next in this series, and I canโ€™t wait to hear/read his story!

Audio Review:
I love it when the narrators bring the book to life and that is exactly what Robert Hatchett and Erin Mallon did. They help with painting the picture of the book as I listen to the story that they are reading to me!
