You know you want to…

โ€œAnd this is Wilder. Your partner for the ceremony.โ€ She wagged a finger at him. โ€œBe nice.โ€
He smirked. โ€œIโ€™m always nice, love.โ€
Ooh . . . Those eyes come with a British accent.
The groomsman, whose name was apparently Wilder, gave me the once-over. His eyes dropped down to take in my dress, then raised to the top of my head, where the fascinator that looked more like mangled horns sat protruding from my skull.
โ€œYou had on a different dress earlier. So the accident mustโ€™ve happened recently then?โ€
โ€œAccident?โ€
He smirked and motioned to the fascinator. โ€œIโ€™m assuming thereโ€™s a giant wound under there, since you thought it was a good idea to put that dress on instead.โ€
โ€œAre you joking?โ€ My hands flew to my hips. โ€œWho insults someone they just met like that?โ€
โ€œActually I was.โ€ He grinned. โ€œJoking, I mean.โ€
โ€œWell, it wasnโ€™t very funny. Do you think I want to be wearing this . . . this . . .โ€ My arms flailed around. โ€œCostume?โ€
The maรฎtre dโ€™ walked over. His eyes flashed down the hall and back. I suspected he was looking for the bride. โ€œIs everything alright over here?โ€ he whispered.
โ€œFine.โ€
He gestured to the door. โ€œPeople are waiting for the ceremony to start. The walls are thin.โ€
I took a deep breath and nodded. โ€œOf course. Sorry.โ€
My eyes slanted to the guy standing next to me, my partner, it seemed. He still wore a shit-eating grin and looked pretty proud of himself. But while I continued to scowl, I took a moment to check out the rest of his face, since I hadnโ€™t been able to move past his eyes earlier. Square jaw, defined cheekbones, flawless tanned skinโ€”I wasnโ€™t sure if Bridezilla made the men get spray tans too, but his coloring was too golden bronze to have come from anything other than genetics. Not to mention, he was tallโ€”a weakness of mineโ€”with broad shoulders and . . . I inhaled. Damn, the fucker smells good, too.
Iโ€™d been so busy checking him out, I hadnโ€™t realized heโ€™d watched me do it. When my eyes met his again, he raised a brow. โ€œLike what you see?โ€
Ugh. Cocky and rude. I plastered on a fake smile. โ€œYes, what a shame something so pleasant doesnโ€™t come with a matching personality.โ€
