In the delightfully nosy town of Whynot, North Carolina, secrets and sweet tea never stay cold for long. When sparks fly between two localsโone returning home and one with secrets to hideโthe gossip mill isnโt the only thing turning up the heat.
Penny Pritchard thought sheโd traded in small-town chatter for political banter when she left to build a big career in Washington, D.C. But when her beloved Aunt Muriel needs help running Central Cafรฉโthe local hotspot for gossip, grits, and good intentionsโPenny comes home with a suitcase full of high heels and denial about just how much sheโs missed this place.
Enter Sam-Pete Rochelle, the easygoing bartender at Chestyโs with a smile that could make a girl forget her rules and a secret bigger than the town itself. Everyone thinks heโs just the guy pouring whiskey and fixing the jukebox. No one suspects heโs actually a wildly popular, very rich, and very anonymous author of steamy fantasy romance novels.
When the truth is revealed and itโs time for Sam to stop hiding behind his pen name, Whynot loses its collective mind. The church ladies are clutching their pearls, Floydโs hosting a โBanned Books & Bourbonโ club, and the mayorโs calling an emergency meeting about moral decay. And Penny? Penny is learning firsthand that Sam doesnโt justย talk the talkย where his books are concerned. Sam excels atย walking the walk, if you know what I mean.
Now, Penny is torn between her two worlds. Does she go back to the career that provides a sense of fulfillment and purpose or stay in the small town with the man who writes about epic love stories and might just be her own real-life happily ever after?
A laugh-out-loud, heart-swoony friends-to-lovers romance about second chances, southern charm, and finding the courage to write your own storyโone rumor at a time.
Whiskey, Words and Whispers by Sawyer Bennett
Tanya’s rating: 4 of 5 stars
Whiskey, Words and Whispers is the first book in the Sweet Tea & Trouble Series. This is Penny Pritchard and Sam-Pete Rochelleโs story.
Sam is a bartender at Chestyโs and heโs hiding a big secret. Penny has come back home to Whynot to help her aunt. When it is time for her to return, she isnโt ready to leave behind Sam.
I love that once Sam reveals his secret Penny is so supportive! My mother would have had the same reaction Samโs mother had with Samโs secret.
I loved reading Sam and Pennyโs story, and I am looking forward to the next book! Itโs great seeing that this author is bringing out some new series!
Lita’s Book Review: 4 Stars
Whiskey, Words And Whispers by Sawyer Bennett is a cute story of Penny who comes back to her hometown of Whynot to help her ailing aunt who owns a beloved diner which is a staple of the community.ย While home she runs into Sam who is a bartender at the local dive. 2 years her junior, she never anticipated romance with the college drop out. Yes, she has grown up with Sam, but getting to know him on a deeper level was never on her bingo card. Now she has a decision to make. Sam has been on the fence for a while.ย He dropped out of college after 2 years and now is relegated to make part time bartending his job. I really enjoyed this story. The journey of Penny and Sam was a real treat. Their relationship put a smile on my face and the characters from Whynot had me laughing. They were quite the cast of characters. I have read plenty of this author’s book. Living in North Carolina near Raleigh, along with mentioning other things from other books I have read from this author was definitely a treat. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.ย This was a solid 4 star read for me.
