This Dark Shade (Dark Stirrings #1) are 2 novella’s – “Cold, So Cold” by Alex Demasi and “Riding Hood” by London Beck. (One book, two stories) Initially all I was told about “This Dark Shade” was that it was dark. I went into reading “This Dark Shade” not having any idea what “This Dark Shade” was about and no clue that it contained 2 Novellas.
I can say I was pleasantly surprised by “This Dark Shade”. I was initially confused as to the direction of the stories but as time went on I became enthralled in the story. The first story “Cold, So Cold” was about Maria and William. They were on a hiking trip that went horribly wrong, due to emotional scars Maria has an incident with William and ends up running out in the rain and on the verge of hypothermia. William runs out after Maria and this action sets in motion a chain of events each had no clue was going to happen. Each of then ends up experiencing separate episodes, that could not have been real but felt real to them. The question is. is this a dream or am I Alice in Wonderland and have I have fell down the rabbit hole with a real sexual twist.
The second story “Riding Hood” was of a young college girl hitchhiking to see a friend on spring break that went horribly wrong. Hitchhiking is not always safe even if you feel sexual tension and your actions can have deadly results. Reading these stories made me think of the old television programs The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery. If you enjoyed those television programs, then you will enjoy this book. As new authors, This Dark Shade (Dark Stirrings #1) is a good start and I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.
