Nightmare Rising by Cari Silverwood and Nicolette Hugo
Centuries in our past, an alchemist tears a rift in reality and humankind’s nightmares and dreams invade this world. Solid as mist, as seeable as a sigh – they want to kill us, to possess us, to use us as their whore.
Soon…they whisper to themselves.
Saviors may come from dark places.
Teenagers swimming in a creek. Blood drifting deep. When Zara is young, her friend is taken by a killer. For most of her adult life, the man who took her friend stalks Zara with messages on postcards: MISSING YOU. ARE YOU MISSING ME?
She runs, hides.
Running is her best option until she and Valor Lacroix find each other, until the bomb blows up her street and the dead litter the pavement. Someone has reached under her skin, invaded her, and implanted strange abilities and memories. For the first time in forever she has power.
Zara dubs herself the girl most likely to give her friendly serial killer the finger in a terminal way. She’s a girl with a knife that stitches nightmares, faeries, and demons into skin.
She makes a mental note: begin search for vengeance.
Valor, a CIA agent gone feral, invites himself along – he needs Zara for reasons, good reasons.
Nightmares are rising, and the worst of them lies beside her.
If you save a monster, don’t turn your back.
Dark, erotic, urban fantasy.
If you don’t know where dark romance can go, this might not be the book for you.
Tanya Rae’s rating: 5 of 5 stars
This time Cari Silverwood and Nicolette Hugo collaborated to bring us a dark, erotic urban fantasy book. Their writing is seamless and you won’t be able to tell who wrote what part. Nightmare Rising is the first book in The Nightmare Trilogy and what a start in this series.
I have read most of Cari Silverwood’s books and Nicolette Hugo is new to me (I just bought one of her books after reading Nightmare Rising).
Nightmare Rising starts off with a warning and don’t think they are teasing you with the warning it is a true DARK book to read.
The Prologue starts out in the year of 1862. Then switches to modern times and the Nightmare King returns and takes over. Now if you love dark books you really need to pick this one up and read it. Because it is very, very good! Oh and did I say this book is HOT!
There is not a nice warm and fuzzy ending to this book. In fact, it is kind of messy with no HEA. That is okay because it has made me where I can’t wait for book 2! Is it bad that I am already wishing for the 2nd book when the 1st is just releasing? Oh well I can live with not having book 2 out yet but I sure hope it will be releasing soon!
I did receive an Advanced Copy to review but, I also bought this book!
About Cari Silverwood:
Cari Silverwood is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling writer of kinky darkness or sometimes of dark kinkiness (and sometimes fantasy such as the Magience world books), depending on her moods and the amount of time she’s spent staring into the night. When others are writing bad men doing bad things you may find her writing good men who accidentally on purpose fall into the abyss and come out with their morals twisted in knots.
If you love my Magience world stories (Needle Rain and Magience), be aware these are the only books of mine that I don’t class as erotic.
